A-Part Festival, Saint Etienne, France, 2024
KEF! returned to Saint Etienne, France, to partake in A-Part Festival once again, after the completion of his mural in 2017. The left side of the wall has begun to deteriorate, the paint has started to chip, and the lines have faded and become one with the wall. In 2024, he continued the work, shifting to more intense contrasting colours including white against black, vibrant red, blue and yellow, suggesting conflict and growth, and the intensity of change.
The left symbolises the impermanence of early transitions, which flows like water or budding flowers into the right side, symbolising new beginnings and potential.
Echos of Change
The mural, a striking contrast of 3654 white lines against a deep black background, embodies the ephemeral nature of life, nature and serenity. The fluidity of the lines evokes the passage of time, capturing the fleeting beauty of moments as they merge and twist, while the interplay of light and shadow remind us that, like life, both nature and peace are temporary, yet profoundly beautiful in their impermanence.
A-Part festival started in 2010 and has gathered visual artists from across the globe every year since, to take part in gatherings, exchanges and to share their artworks in historical locations in the Alpilles region.
